Expressing gratitude towards the Indian government for its cooperation in the matter, FM Qureshi said the step was to honour the Sikh community's desire to visit Kartarpur Sahib, one of the holiest sites in the religion and a mere stone throw away from the international border.

The corridor will allow visa-free access to pilgrims from the community to visit the Kartarpur shrine.

Referring to southern Punjab, the foreign minister announced that the government is making headway in regards to making the southern region of Punjab into a province.

"The government and the opposition are addressing legal barriers," added Qureshi.
