HYDERABABD: The Hyderabad Cantonment Board (HBC) has banned the use of plastic shopping bags and proscribed fuel stations from selling fuel to motorbikes whose riders do not wear helmets.

HBC notified the ban on Friday and it will be enforced from December 1. The HBC Vice Chairmperson Abdul Rasheed, who belongs to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), said that the use of plastic bags is creating a health and environmental hazard while also becoming a cause for choking of the drainage system.

He also underlined the importance of wearing helmets to prevent fatal injuries during accidents. He said that elected local government representatives will fully support implementation of the HBC administration’s decision.
