The victim, identified as Rushaan Farrukh, received serious injuries and was shifted to the hospital for treatment. However, she could not survive.
Farrukh, a resident of Nawab Town and daughter of a senior journalist currently living abroad, was studying visual arts at the university. She was stated to be a jolly, fun-loving and talented girl by her peers and colleagues. On the day of the incident, the victim climbed up to the fourth floor of the building in front of a large group of students. Reportedly, most of the them did not take the matter seriously. However, some did report the matter to the administration. After some time, she jumped from the building.
She was severely injured and was shifted to a local private hospital. From there, she was shifted to Lahore General Hospital (LGH) where she succumbed to injuries during treatment.
The family of the victim refused to initiate legal action after which the police handed the body over to them for burial.
The exact cause for her suicide was yet to be determined. However, she was reportedly suffering from depression. The victim had been posting on social media, indicating that she had been suffering from anxiety, depression and tendency to inflict harm onto herself.
A day before her death, she had posted a picture in a saree on instagram and written, “Hey so if I kill myself anytime soon, just remember me like this. Just in this saree, on a spring afternoon, looking so happy, too happy. Jo bhi, give saree puns”.
