KARACHI: A man was killed when a compressor at a tyre puncture shop in Akhtar Colony exploded.

The blast also caused damage to the shop. According to details, the incident took place in a puncture shop near the church in Akhtar Colony’s sector E within the limits of Mehmoodabad Police Station.

The sound of the blast created panic among the residents of the area, who came out to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

The police and rescue services also arrived at the scene and immediately shifted body of the man to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was identified as 16-year old Victor Wildes.

The police said that the deceased was a resident of Akhtar Colony and had arrived at the shop to fix his motorcycle puncture when the air compressor meant to inflate tyres malfunctioned and exploded.

The police collected evidence from the site and further investigations are underway.
