GUJRANWALA:

A man, who murdered his wife five years ago, was arrested by police on Thursday, Express News has learnt.

The police said accused Bashir, a resident of Tauliki Village, had gunned down his wife Asmat Bibi over a domestic dispute some five years back. However, after committing the murder, the suspect fled and had been absconding since then.

Taking notice of the incident, Gujranwala CPO Moin Masood and Saddar SP Shahbaz Elahi formed a team to nab the culprit.

While speaking to Express News, SHO Saifullah Virk said that during the course of investigation, it transpired that the accused had fled to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and was running a hotel in partnership with another man.

He revealed that recently, the culprit bought a motorcycle from Lahore through which the police managed to trace his whereabouts. He said the police team reached K-P and nabbed Bashir during a raid. The SHO mentioned that the weapon used in the murder was also seized from his possession.

He pointed out that the accused had been sent to jail on a 14-day physical remand, while further investigation was under way.

Earlier, Rahim Yar Khan Police arrested two suspects who were involved in a dual murder case.

The police said accused Abdul Jabbar Arain and Usman Ali had killed 16-year-old Noman Khokhar and 18-year-old Shahbaz in a bid to snatch their motorcycle rickshaws. The suspects took both of the victims to the outskirts of the city, promising to pay them a significant amount of money for the journey.

However, after reaching an isolated place, the accused covered their faces with a piece of cloth and strangled them with rope.

Later, the culprits buried their bodies in a ditch and fled with the motorcycle rickshaws. The accused used to sell motorcycle rickshaws after stealing them.
