QUETTA: Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) Noor Muhammad Dummar has said measures are being taken for bringing reforms in the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) on an emergency basis for ensuring proper supply of water to people.

During a visit to authority’s main office on Monday, the minister said, “Water is a great blessing and negligence in the supply of water to the citizens will not be tolerated”.

WASA Managing Director Mujeebur Rehman Qambarani briefed the minister regarding the department’s issues and staff problems in detail.

Dummar said no one would be allowed to misuse the national exchequer. He ordered WASA to recover its dues from defaulting consumers.

The minister said action would be taken against defaulting commercial and domestic consumers. He ordered the formation of teams comprising SDOs and revenue officers for ensuring recovery of dues on a monthly basis.

He said he would arrange a progress review meeting every month to bring improvement in the performance of the department.

“I will chair monthly progress review meetings to assess the performance of WASA because we seek to resolve basic public issues, particularly water supply at their doorsteps,” said Dummar, adding that a comprehensive policy was being made to overcome the shortage of water.

The WASA managing director said 40 to 50 per cent of the dues were being paid by the commercial and domestic consumers.
