Seven men accused of beating up a traffic warden as part of a large mob have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Old Anarkali police produced Shahid Masih, Shahid Mehmood, Khurram Masih, Norab Khan, Muhammad Arif, Muhammad Farooq and Moon Javed before Judicial Magistrate Shahid Ali Khokhar on Wednesday and sought a 10-day physical remand, saying they were still to recover a wireless-set, challan book, umbrella and mobiles.
The judge sent the accused on judicial remand and adjourned till June 22. The warden, Muhammad Asif, was attacked by a mob near Neela Gumbad after he had stopped a car for violating a traffic signal. The car had been rushing an ill man to hospital. The patient died before he got to the hospital and his family blamed the warden. A large mob then beat him up. Asif lodged an FIR against 10 named and 100 unnamed people.
