A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and then poisoned to death by forcing her to consume insecticide pills in Rawalpindi's Darkali Dhok Awan area on Monday.

Sajid Parveen, the victim's mother, told authorities that around 5:30pm she had gone out to purchase groceries, when Muhammad Mubeen, the suspect entered the house and closed the doors after which he proceeded to sexually assault her daughter Yumna Batool.

When the mother returned home, she found all doors of the house locked.

Subsequently, with the help of the neighbours, she yelled out for Batool to open the door, but to no avail.

Later, Mubeen's parents along with his brother came to their residence and helped him flee the scene.

Batool was found in an unconscious state in the room and was then shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The poison, however, had spread through her body and she breathed her last.

The alleged culprit has not been taken into custody until filing of this report.

Batool's body has now been sent for a post-mortem with Rawalpindi Police having now registered a case in this regard.
