MULTAN: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday handed down '15 life imprisonments' to a woman and her accomplice for poisoning 16 people, including a child, in October last year.

Aasia bibi, 20, had served a poisonous lassi (a local drink made of milk) to her family in connivance with her secret affair Shahid in Seetpur, Muzaffargarh.

The verdict was announced by Judge Shakir Hassan of the ATC in the Dera Ghazi Khan district, who also announced a penalty of Rs3 million for each of the convicts.

In October 2017, Aasia was reportedly forced into the marriage and poisoned the glass of milk meant for her husband, Amjad, to get him killed, but somehow, he did not drink it. The milk was later used to make lassi, which affected 28 people, in total.

Last week, two minor brothers allegedly died of ‘food poisoning’ and their mother was hospitalised after dining out at a high-end restaurant in an upscale neighbourhood of Karachi.
