ISLAMABAD: Unemployed members of PhD Doctors Association staged a protest in front of the residence of the prime minister at Bani Gala. It is estimated that almost a 100 PhDs participated in the protest.

They blocked Imran Khan Chowk for traffic and chanted slogans.

They were protesting that the government had spent millions of rupees in sending them abroad on scholarships and when they returned to serve their country after completing PhD from there, they were not being offered employment.

They alleged that nepotism is at its peak in HEC, there is a nexus between HEC and universities as a result of which HEC is favouring their own. They demanded that HEC should be closed immediately and PhD doctors should be given permanent employment by forming a new board, they demanded that government has announced to give 10 million jobs and as such over eight hundred unemployed PhDs  across the country should be given employment under this announcement.

Unemployment rate jumps to 13-year high

On this occasion, PM’s special assistant Naeemul Haq made telephonic contact with PhD Doctors Association’s President Dr Sher Afzal.

Sher Afzal said that it was decided later that on Tuesday PM Imran Khan himself will hold talks with the doctors. He said that we all will stay here till Monday and will get up from this place after getting our demands approved on Monday.
