KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government has decided to launch its first public contact campaign since assuming power.

The decision to launch this campaign was taken after extensive talks by party’s top leadership. The drive is likely to be held in two phases and will include a number of public gatherings across the country for the purpose of making people aware of achievements made by the PTI government so far in their 75-day tenure.

The government will also use this platform to inform people of future development plans.

As per sources within PTI, the party leadership at one end is trying to chalk up polices and taking measures as per a comprehensive strategy in order to resolve pressing issues of the country, while on the other it is revisiting current political situation and closely monitoring strategy against opposition parties.

“PTI leadership has decided to give a befitting response to anti-government propaganda and strategy of the opposition,” revealed sources, adding the party leadership believes since their victory in the 2018 general elections was largely because of extensive public contact therefore they should continue the tradition.

Sources further said the government hopes to launch the campaign as soon as possible, which will include holding public gatherings and open courts. Federal and provincial ministers of the party as well as elected MNAs, MPAs and other party leaders will address open stages based on a predetermined schedule in the first phase.

The government believes these open courts will help understand problems of the people while the ministers hearing and recording their issues will formulate recommendations and forward them to the provincial and federal governments. Based on these suggestions, the government will chalk out strategy for necessary action.

Meanwhile, in the second phase, PTI will hold public gatherings at various districts, which Prime Minister Imran Khan will himself address along with federal and provincial ministers, who will inform the public about performance of the government and future projects.

The public gatherings will also be held in various phases in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Quetta. In addition, public gatherings will also be held in smaller districts as per schedule.

Moreover, the public contact campaign is also being started to set stage for the local bodies elections. The leadership is eyeing victory in all districts so the government can serve the people by making district government as a model for governance.

Sources have said this campaign will go uninterrupted for an indefinite time and the prime minister will address gatherings as per need and his schedule while PTI leaders will also strongly remind the public of negligence and poor performance of former governments and criticise opposition parties while maintaining a democratic atmosphere.
