Leader of JUI-S, Maulana Abdul Haq Haqqani also corroborated claims of Shah's family and confirmed that contact could not be established with the missing secretary. Haqqani speculated that it might be an attempt to evade the police investigation.

However, a senior officer of Rawalpindi Police said Shah was not considered a suspect earlier but his interrogation has become crucial for the investigation team following recent events.

A first information report (FIR) of the murder of the JUI-S chief was registered at the airport police station on the complaint of his son Maulana Hamid.
