FATA merger: QWP urges govt to fulfil promises

Aftab Sherpao demanded the government to convene the meeting of the National Finance Commission award

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Saturday demanded of the federal government to fulfill all pledges made to people of merged tribal areas. He was speaking at a seminar titled “Fata Merger Current Situation and Way Forward” at Watan Kor. Aftab Sherpao demanded the government to convene the meeting of the National Finance Commission award to allocate funds for the merged Fata districts. He said that the local government election and the election for the provincial assembly seats for Fata districts should be held forthwith to give representative to the tribal people. The QWP leader said that quota should be allocated for the tribal districts in education institutions and government jobs for the time being. He said that the local youth should be recruited to maintain security in the tribal districts. He also demanded that the Levies personnel should be trained at the police academy in Hangu to enhance their capacities. After the training of the Levies men, the regular courts should be set up in the tribal districts as per the decision of the Peshawar High Court to provide justice to the people.
