Tom Latham and Ross Taylor notched up a brilliant 130-run partnership for the fourth wicket to put New Zealand in a commanding position, after the visitors won the toss and elected to bat first.
Taylor was the highest run scorer in the Kiwi innings with a resolute 112-ball knock of 80 runs. Meanwhile Latham played a brisk innings of 68 runs off 64 balls. Both batsmen smacked five boundaries each.
But just when the visitors were eyeing a strong finish to their innings, Shadab Khan rocked them with three wickets in the same over. The Pakistan leg-spinner was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers and finished with figures of four wickets for 38 runs in his full quota of ten overs.
