Convict in Ulema shooting case awarded life imprisonment

Verdict announced at the judicial complex in Karachi Central Jail

KARACHI: A special bench of the anti-terrorism court awarded life imprisonment to Syed Ali Hasan Zaidi, convicting him for the murder of three Ulema at Sharae Faisal in 2013.

The verdict was announced at the judicial complex in Karachi Central Jail. Syed Ali Hasan Zaidi was awarded life imprisonment while three others, Haider Ali, Asghar alias Kaka Banda and Wajahat alias Chikna, were acquitted for want of evidence.

The counsel for the accused, Advocate Abid Zaman, said that the prosecution had nominated 12 witnesses in the case. According to police, the accused involved in the murder belonged to a political party. They allegedly gunned down three Ulema, including Abdul Majeed Deenpuri and Mufti Saleh, at Sharae Faisal in 2013. They were apprehended by the Sindh Rangers.
