Landslides: FWO reopens KKH in Kohistan

KOHISTAN: The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has managed to clear debris from the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in Lower Kohistan and reopen it for traffic on Sunday.

The road was reopened four days after it had been blocked due to landslides. As a result thousands of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road.

The landslides had been triggered by the heavy downpour from Pattan to Sholgara in Lower Kohistan, said, officials.

The KKH not only serves as a link between K-P and G-B but is also the only land route which connects to China. FWO stated that they managed to reopen the crucial artery after a struggle of four days which eased the traffic issues of G-B and Kohistan and allowed thousands of vehicles and stranded passengers, who were stuck in the roadblock, to depart for their destinations across the country.
