This was disclosed by Parks Horticulture Authority (PHA) Chairman Asif Mehmood while speaking to newsmen at the Rawalpindi Press Club.
Explaining the move, the PHA chairman said that this would commemorate police history, heroes and their achievements.
He clarified that there was no political motive behind the change in the name given how Shahbaz, the former Punjab chief minister, currently in the custody of the apex anti-graft body National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Mehmood further said that their Clean and Green Pakistan Drive was continuing successfully. He urged the students to spearhead the movement since they hold the keys to the future and action in this regard was imperative to tackle global warming.
He added that the campaign was intended to make our surroundings cleaner and greener by changing the mindsets and attitudes of the public towards global warming.
The PHA chief further stated that millions of rupees were being spent to give Rawalpindi a festive look. The beautification and landscaping projects were in the pipeline to give the city a more aesthetically appealing look.
He said that all the parks, open spaces and important crossings had been redesigned and thousands of saplings had been planted in parks and roadsides of Rawalpindi which has provided recreational facilities to the citizens besides provision of other related necessary facilities.
