KARACHI: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has handed over the responsibility of providing medical care and health and sanitation services for the internally displaced people (IDPs) who are still living in Karachi to the local authorities.

Also, known as Doctors Without Borders, MSF has been providing these services since November 2010. It was running mobile clinics, providing clean water and distributing relief items first in two of the camps, eventually extending its activities to cover all of the eight camps in Karachi.

In total, MSF conducted more than 24,076 medical consultations, delivered over 14,730 m³ litres of clean water per day and distributed 7,375 packages of relief items. They also provided 1,320 tents to the IDPs across eight camps in Karachi. This handover marks the end of MSF’s country-wide response to the emergency needs created by the July 2010 floods.
