Only Independent judges give independent judiciary: Justice Tariq Parvez Khan.

Supreme Court judge Justice Tariq Parvez Khan has asked district judiciary judges to take reasonable steps to maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills and qualities, necessary for judicial office.

Justice Parvez expressed these view in a certificate-awarding ceremony on the conclusion of a one-week orientation course for district and sessions judges and additional district and sessions judges from all over Pakistan here at the Federal Judicial Academy on Saturday. Twenty District and Sessions Judges/Additional District and Sessions Judges were given away certificates in the ceremony.

Judges need to enhance their understanding of law, all related disciplines coupled with emerging trends and changes in the world to the same extent as other professionals, said Justice Parvez. In an age where rapid technological changes are revolutionizing virtually every aspect of life, the law must keep pace with changes that society undergoes, he added.

He said it is not financially and practically feasible for the Federal Judicial Academy, which provides quality educational programs to the judiciary, to bring judges from all over Pakistan at one time and arrange their training. However, from time to time short training courses are arranged for them to achieve desired goals.

“Only independent judges form independent judiciary, who decide cases in accordance with their own consciences and are bound solely by the law,” he said. He advised the judges to work hard with honesty and integrity within the available means so as to take the country to new horizons of progress and development.
