Facilitating the masses: ‘Khidmat centre to bridge gap between citizens and police’

DG Khan RPO says the project will provide citizens with all the facilities under one roof

MULTAN: The main objective behind establishing the Khidmat Markaz is to minimise the gap between citizens and the police, said Dera Ghazi Khan Regional Police Officer Muhammad Umar Sheikh.

He expressed these views while inaugurating a Police Khidmat Centre in Layyah on Saturday. Speaking at the ceremony, Sheikh applauded IG Punjab’s initiative regarding establishing facilitation centres across the whole province.

This project will provide citizens with all the facilities under one roof. The main objective behind establishing the Khidmat Markaz is to minimise the gap between citizens and the police, he expressed. He added that these centres will help in improving the force’s image and will aid in building trust between officials and the public.

On the occasion, Sheikh visited the Khidmat centre and asked the staff about the procedures and services that will be extended to the people of Layyah. He was briefed that under a one-window operation, residents will be able to obtain a driver’s license, a character certificate, personal verification and other such facilities. The RPO directed district police to deal with people with compassion.

Police officials are the first people that citizens approach when they are distressed, he said.

Layyah DPO Zahid Nawaz stated that Khidmat centres will promote the concept of community policing and officials will be able to serve the people in the best possible manner as they become more familiar with residents. He maintained that all the possible arrangements had been made to facilitate the masses at these centres; this is the first time in Layyah that citizens can avail such facilities under one roof, he said. At the end of the ceremony, certificates and prizes were also distributed among police officials based on their performance. The RPO said that officials must be appreciated and awarded on the basis of their performance so that they are able to serve their department in the best possible manner. DSPs, SHOs and police officials from the entire district attended the ceremony.
