Urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh: Police to ensure foolproof security

Police draw up comprehensive plan for Chehlum, the urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh and Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtama

LAHORE: At least, 15,000 police officials will be deployed to ensure fool proof security during Chehlum and the urs of Data Ganj Baksh. Lahore police devised a comprehensive security plan for Chehlum, the urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh and the Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtama.

The plan was finalised during a high level meeting chaired by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) BA Nasir at Qila Gujjar Singh.

A three-layered security plan will be ensured for the occasion; every participant will be frisked and checked with metal detectors before entering walk-through gates. Roads leading towards the venue will be cordoned of using tents, barbed wire and containers.

Further, snipers will also be deployed to keep a watchful eye on suspicious people and activity. All gatherings will be monitored through CCTV cameras installed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.

Teams from the Police Response Unit and the Dolphin Squad will also be on in nearby areas to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.

Senior police officials will be on duty to review security arrangements.

CCPO BA Nasir directed officers to brief their subordinates about the sensitivity of certain areas and points.

During the urs of Data Ganj Baksh, at least 213 wardens, 31 patrolling officers, 18 inspectors and three DSPs will be on duty under the supervision of SP Asif Siddique.

Chief Traffic Police Officer Liaqat Ali Malik said that all vehicles will be banned from Peer Makki u-turn and Katchery Chowk while the road leading from Low Mall Crossing and Rattigan Road will be cordoned off. Further, traffic from Mochi Gate to Batti Gate will be blocked.

However, all those vehicles bringing milk for sabeel will be allowed to enter from these points, he said.
