A departmental inquiry, conducted on the order of the services tribunal Karachi, has unearthed 111 fake employees in the education department in Jacobabad district. According to a report submitted to the secretary education, the employment record of another 40 employees is missing.

A list of 155 bogus employees including teachers, lab assistants, clerks and other staff members was given to the department by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Among those 155, 111 have been declared as fake employees who kept drawing salaries for years while the files of 40 others are missing.

The five-member inquiry team was headed by the Education and Literacy Department Special Secretary Abbass Detho. The report has been submitted to the secretary education with the recommendation of taking action against the involved officials.

Meanwhile, the Government School Teachers Association (GSTA) Jacobabad has rejected the inquiry. The association's leader, Haq Nawaz Noonari, said the inquiry report is based on assumptions. "We don't accept the report. Some of the teachers mentioned as fake employees have been working for decades," he claimed while talking to the local media.

According to Noonari and Ali Hassan Dashti of GSTA, some employees in the list are nearing retirement. They appealed the provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah to order another impartial inquiry.
