KARACHI:

A wrong turn left five people dead and one injured on the Super Highway on Sunday morning.

Sachal police officials say that vegetable vendors were returning to the city on a loading Suzuki after buying vegetables from New Sabzi Mandi when they collided with a speeding dumper truck.

Four vegetable vendors, Rashid, 34, Syed Nawab, 39, Sufiyan, 55 and Pervez Ahmed, 35, and the driver Asif, 24, were killed while Pyara Khan was injured. They were all taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

SHO Agha Shamshad told The Express Tribune that the accident was the Suzuki driver’s fault. He was trying to avoid travelling an extra kilometre to turn and went in the wrong direction to use a shortcut.

“They have to get their vegetables to the market in time and they often turn on the broken lane between the two roads on the highway,” the officer explained, “which is why accidents like this happen.”
