Makhdoom Rasheed, the owner of a medical store situated on Amin Pur Bypass and a resident of Chak No 60-JB in Shahbaz Pur, submitted a complaint to the anti-corruption director. He stated that Health Services Director Riaz Ahmed, Statistical Officer Abid Javed Akbar, ex-head clerk Muhammad Aslam and driver Asif allegedly took Rs0.1 million as a bribe from him.
He added the accused also threatened to seal his medical store if he failed to pay the money.
While taking action on the complaint, Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Assistant Director Zahid Masood Nizami and Special Judicial Magistrate Zeeshan Labha conducted a raid and caught all four of the accused. The ACE team also seized the bribe amount from them.
FIR No 64/2018 was registered against three suspects under Section 161 of the Pakistan Penal Code. ACE officials said the driver had not been nominated in the case as he was not directly involved.
Sources revealed that Health Services Director Riaz Ahmed will retire from his post on November 17, 2018.
The ACE has been taking action against corrupt officials without discrimination across Punjab. In the last seven months, the ACE officials arrested 377 suspects in Gujranwala division which is the highest number for regional directorates in the province. Action is also being taken against unscrupulous elements on the basis of secret reports.
Earlier, former anti-corruption directorate deputy director (Legal) Mian Abdul Jabbar had been sacked due to alleged corruption, while the services of assistant director investigation Asif Noor were terminated due to unsatisfactory performance.
Besides, personnel of the technical branch had been changed and officers with a solid reputation were appointed in their place.
