LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General Police Amjad Javid Saleemi has urged ASPs and DSPs to play their role as supervisors to modernise police stations.

He was addressing a darbar of ASPs and DSPs held at the Central Police Office on Thursday.

He said steps should be taken to enhance the capacity building of subordinates by holding training courses. The IGP suggested community policing to ensure the safety of lives and public properties. He went on to say that supremacy of law and public service were the top priority of police and he would make efforts to ensure all available resources were being provided to the police department.

He said special attention would be paid to cleanliness, provision of clean water and recruitment of sweepers at 721 police stations across the province. Saleemi said district training schools would be opened at all police lines of Punjab where refresher courses and workshops on investigation, traffic management, crime control and anti-rioting would be held.

The IGP orders the ASPs and DSPs should initiate the process of reforms at police stations through a system of self-accountability and check the record of police stations registers. He urged them to take action against the officials who are involved in corruption, misuse of power and delays in lodging FIRs.

He said resource management centres should be established in all districts to ensure cleanliness and the renovation of police stations. He added that for a safe Punjab and safe society, the concept of trust and mutual coordination between police and public is the need the hour. Therefore, senior officers should arrange meetings with notables, religious scholars, traders, lawyers, members of civil society and journalists to seek their cooperation for dealing with criminals.

Saleemi said that steps should be taken to ensure facilities of education, health and other welfare programmes for children of officers and officials.
