On the directives of the Supreme Court, district administration along with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) used heavy machinery to demolish all illegal properties in the federal capital and surrounding areas.
As the authorities razed a building in Bani Gala, men inside the premises opened fire on them. Police responded with retaliatory fire and later managed to take five culprits into custody.
‘Grand’ operation: Anti-encroachment drive from Wednesday
Many of those living on the encroached land in Bani Gala claimed that CDA officials had wrongly declared their buildings to be illegal.
The top court on Tuesday asked the prime minister — who owns a sprawling mansion in the Bani Gala locality of the federal capital — to first pay the fine and then ask others in the neighbourhood to get their properties regularised.
This was directed by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC), headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, as it heard a suo motu case regarding encroachment in Bani Gala.
