RAWALPINDI: Despite a cold change in weather, the number of confirmed dengue cases reported to the allied hospitals in the city have increased to 27 on Tuesday. Of these, 21 cases which have tested positive for dengue were brought to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH). Of these, 11 patients came to the hospital from different areas of neighbouring Islamabad.
At the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital and the District Headquarters Hospital, a total of six patients have tested positive for dengue.
Health and environmental experts say that with the cold snap, the mosquitos carrying the dengue virus will seek refuge indoors, especially at dawn and dusk. They advised that people should keep themselves covered while indoors and to spray inside their houses.
Measles campaign
During the ongoing anti-measles vaccination campaign, as many as 70,000 children have been vaccinated in the city so far. Rawalpindi Health Chief Executive Officer Khalid Mehmood said that they hope to administer the oral vaccine to some 852,554 children in Kallar Sayedan, Kahuta, Murree, Kotli Sattian, Gujjar Khan and Taxila.
District Supervisor Mehmood Hussein said their campaign was going well, thanks to the support and cooperation extended by the parents.
Cleanliness in Islamabad
Meanwhile, in the federal capital, the Sanitation Department of the Islamabad Metropolitan Cooperation (IMC) has started work on the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign after its launch by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Sanitation Sardar Khan Zimri said that the department had launched the cleanliness campaign using their own resources to collect garbage from the rural areas.
