ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has said Gwadar is the future economic and trade centre of not only Pakistan but the region as well.

Speaking during a meeting in the Parliament House with a Chinese delegation headed by Chinese Minister for International Development Song Tao, the Senate chairman said contacts between parliaments of the two countries would further strengthen the ties between them.

Sanjrani said, “Pakistan has an important geological location and can help with trade access to Central Asia, Middle East and Europe. There are vast opportunities of investment here.”

He said, “The region is witnessing a political situation and the Asian leadership will have to take concrete steps to promote peace so that the dream of Asian Century can be fulfilled.”

He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be helpful in turning this dream into a reality and opening a new chapter of progress in the region.

He urged the Chinese leader to ensure that a Chinese delegation participates in the meeting of the political affairs committee of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

The leader of the Chinese delegation appreciated the point of view of the Senate chairman, saying China gives high importance to its relations with Pakistan and similar views on important matters are a proof that both the countries value mutual relations.
