ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) demolition drive to tear down illegal under construction structures along the Korang Nullah continued on day-three.

However, due to disinterest of higher officials of CDA and Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) the operation against illegal construction in the surroundings of Korang Nullah was facing delay, Daily Express reported.

Only one building was demolished partially in the operation conducted on Friday, and a man was sent to police lock-up for resisting official work.

Meanwhile director enforcement and senior officials of ICTA were not present on the site.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan while hearing a suo-moto case of illegal construction in Bani Gala took notice of the same along the Korang Nullah.

On the orders of the top court, CDA tore down under construction buildings, but did not touch any human dwelling.

Meanwhile, the director enforcement, on this important occasion, has taken leave from department and gone to his ancestral village. The said operation was being monitored by CDA Assistant Director (Enforcement) Zulfiqar Junejo.

Junejo was on the site accompanied by Magistrate Ali Javed and a heavy contingent of police.

Magistrate Javed was present to issue arrest warrants if anyone tries to disrupt the operation. He ordered confinement of a man who started hurling threats when when the demolition team arrived.

Javed told the media that the operation was being carried out as per the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on the areas demarcated on the maps provided by the Survey of Pakistan. All buildings on the 21km redline along the Korang Nullah marked on the map will be torn down, he said.

During the drive, a two-floor building was partially demolished with the help of heavy machinery of Machine Pool Organisation of Islamabad metropolitan Corporation (IMC).

Due to lack of coordination between CDA and district administration the operation began by 4pm after Friday prayers and lunch. It lasted for two hours only after which the CDA and ICTA teams returned. It should be noted that CDA has to present detailed report about nine-day operation on Korang drain in Supreme Court on Wednesday.
