KARACHI:

The training camp for the Davis Cup tie against South Korea will begin from June 10 in the absence of Aisamul Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan.

Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Secretary Mumtaz Yousuf confirmed that the 25-day camp will begin with the top eight players and US-based coach Jalil Riaz will shortlist two players after the trials. Pakistan’s top-ranked player Aqeel will join the camp after June 20, when he returns from Sri Lanka, while French Open doubles quarter-finalist Aisam will join the team in South Korea after taking part in Wimbledon.

Since Samir Iftikhar has pulled out due to his academic commitment, the PTF will now look for two reserve players for the July 8 to July 10 matches.

“We’ll be depending on Aisam and Aqeel obviously,” Yousuf told The Express Tibune. “However, at the moment we’re focusing on finding two players. Aisam doesn’t really need coaching while for Aqeel we’ll provide a session of physiotherapy when he returns since he has emphasised on physical conditioning.”
