West Indies look for consolation win

Express June 02, 2010

West Indies, having lost two Twenty20s and all four One-Day Internationals (ODI), have nothing to play for except pride when they take on South Africa in the fifth and last match today.

The hosts have included batsman Travis Dowlin for the last game to strengthen their batting as captain Chris Gayle ran out of excuses when they lost the fourth game. From batting to fielding to bowling, Gayle has criticised every department.

When they lost the fourth ODI, Gayle was forced to say that ‘losing is becoming a habit’ if it was not already. His on-field spat with Suleiman Benn was a sign of frustration that will finish only with a consolation win.

For the tourists, however, a whitewash will provide consolation following their World Twenty20 setback.
