RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has launched an operation against smoke emitting vehicles.

Traffic cops issued tickets to 847 vehicles and impounded another 127 for execissive emission, police said.

According to Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Bin Ashraf, the CTP has imposed traffic fines worth over Rs380,000 in an effort to control environmental pollution.

The smoke emitting vehicles are not only polluting environment but can also cause smog and respiratory problems, he said. City’s traffic police chief said CTP regularly runs special campaigns, while under one such drive, citizens were educated about traffic rules and road safety. Apparently in this country people come on the roads driving oblivious of traffic rules.

CTP Education Wing is making efforts to spread awareness so that the road journey could be made safe and sound, he added.

The CTO urged the people to cooperate with traffic wardens as they are on the roads to facilitate them. A special squad is available on Helpline 1915 to help and facilitate the citizens, he added.
