Curbing crime: Six gamblers among 14 held; narcotics seized

SSP directs for <br /> strict action against drug peddlers

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police on Saturday arrested 14 suspects including six gamblers from various areas of the city and recovered 1,095 grams of hashish and stolen valuables including a bike, cash, and mobile phones.

A police spokesperson said Sihala police arrested a suspected drug pusher, Asif, and recovered 1,095 gram hashish from him. Police said the suspect used to supply drugs to students at the Capital University of Science and Technology. Sihala police also arrested a suspected bike lifter, Idrees Khan, and recovered a stolen bike from him. Anti Car Lifting Cell arrested two suspects, Zafar and Mujhaid, and recovered a fake registration book, as well as number plates from them. Golra police arrested Ishfaq for selling petroleum products illegally.

Sub-Inspector Saif-Ullah and ASI Khuram Aslam from Bhara Khau police arrested two suspects, Afaq Khalid and Noman Shafique, and recovered a MP-5 gun and one 9mm pistol along with ammunition from their possession.

Sub-Inspector Michael Gill from Khanna police along with police team arrested six gamblers Adnan, Imran, Usman, Ansar, Adnan, Waseem and recovered stake money and gambling tools from their possession.

Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects and further investigation is underway from them.

SSP Islamabad Syed Mohammad Amin Bukhari has directed all Station House Officers for an effective crackdown against those involved in drug peddling. He asked for renewed efforts to curb such practices and rid society of this menace. He said that performance in this regard would be reviewed on a continuous basis.

He said that the menace of drug peddling will not be allowed in educational institutions or anywhere and directed for strict action to be ensured against those partaking in criminal activity. The SSP also categorically asked all police officials to focus on resolving the public complaints and take every possible step to provide maximum relief to citizens.
