On Friday, Resham announced that she will contest the polls on the vacant seat after Salman Naeem was disqualified from PP-217.Hundreds of members of the transgender community attended the session. Resham will be contesting the polls against several candidates including Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Further, members of the transgender community including Rubi, Shabbana and Jan Chaudhry announced that they will collect funds in order to bear the expenses of the political campaign. They added that they will also go door-to-door in their constituency to collect votes.
Resham states that she will focus on humanitarian issues and will work towards providing transgender people with rights. She adds that no previous government has worked for the rights of transgender people due to which they end up begging or dancing at events in order to earn a living.
She assures the community that they will be given jobs and security while their standard of living will also be raised. “You should fight for your right when no else will stand up for it, ,” she expresses.
On October 1, Salman Naeem was disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan for not meeting the age requirement. A petition against Salman Naeem was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s Sheikh Muhammad Tahir who is also the chairman of UC-47. Tahir added that if he was given a ticket by Prime Minister Imran Khan, he would contest the polls in PP-217.
