KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday sentenced two terrorists involved in Lyari gang war to 31 years of imprisonment, while three others were awarded 17 years in prison.
The court sentenced the accused on counts of encounters with the police, premeditated murder, possession of illegal firearms and explosive materials. The two terrorists, belonging to the Ghaffar Zikri group, received 31 years in prison, while the other accused were fined Rs200,000 each.
The convicts include Nabil Arif Lowa, Mumtaz Baloch, Rashid Ali aka Chief and Rehmat. The government lawyer argued that the suspects had opened fire on Rangers on January 29, 2018 which injured one passerby. The Rangers' lawyer informed the court that Lowa also carried terrorist activities for banned terror outfits as well.
Non-bailable warrant
The ATC issued a non-bailable warrant for the arrest of Investigation Officer (IO) Nusrat Sheikh in a case of hate speech against Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders.
The court remarked that the police did not seem interested in handling high profile cases and ordered the IG to ensure the IO's presence.
