Army chief ratifies death sentence of 11 terror convicts

All 11 convicts confessed in trial courts

Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday confirmed the death sentences of 11 ‘hardcore’ terrorists involved in ‘heinous’ offences, a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The 11 have been handed down sentences for attacking armed forces personnel, law enforcement agencies (LEAs), destroying educational institutions and killing innocent civilians. Arms and explosives were also recovered from them.

In total, the convicts are involved in the killing of 69 people including 49 civilians; and 20 security and police officials and injuring 148 others. Arms and explosives were also recovered from them. All of them were tried by special military courts.

Besides, four other convicts have been awarded imprisonment.

Detail of each case is as follows:

  • Ainullah: A member of a proscribed organisation abetted a terrorist commander by designing a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device to attack Suekarno Chowk, Peshawar, which resulted in the death of 48 people and injured 109 others.

  • Naik Wali: A member of a proscribed organisation was involved in attacking armed forces resulting in deaths of Lieutenant Umer Javed, Subedar Muhammad Mohsin, Havildar Amir Muhammad along with three soldiers and injured 14 others.

  • Fazal Manan: A member of a proscribed organisation abetted suicide bomber Shina Fiazullah to attack Saddar Police Station Kohat which resulted in the deaths of Constable Khurshid Ahmed, Constable Muhammad Noor, Constable Fayazul Husnain and injured five others.

  • Rehmat Zada: A member of a proscribed organisation was involved in attacking the armed forces personnel and LEAs which resulted in the deaths of Havildar Musaver Khan, Sepoy Sohail Iqbal, Constable Fazal Malik and injured two others. He was found in possession of firearms.


COAS confirms death sentence for 11 hardcore terrorists

  • Zaid Muhammad: A member of a proscribed organisation and was involved in attacking the armed forces, which resulted in the death of Havildar Muhammad Yar and two other soldiers.

  • Naimatullah: A member of a proscribed organisation who was also involved in attacking the armed forces, which resulted in the death of Sepoy Muhammad Rafique and injured Major Muhammad Akmal Hayat and nine other soldiers.

  • Maseen Zada: Member of a proscribed organisation was involved in the destruction of Rubicon College, Swat and for attacking the armed forces, which resulted in the death of Sepoy Asif Mehmood and injured Major Abdul Qayyum along with two soldiers. He was also found in possession of firearms and explosives.

  • Muhammad Rehman: A member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking LEAs, which resulted in the death of Police Constable Mushtaq Ahmed and injured two other police officials and a civilian.

  • Azmatullah: A proscribed organisation involved in attacking the armed forces, which resulted in the death of Sepoy Asad Jan and injured another soldier.


SC overturns BHC sentence in 2011 bus attack case

  • Muhammad Raqeem: A member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking LEAs, which resulted in the death of Police Constable Manzoor Khan and injured another official.

  • Ikram Khan: A member of a proscribed organisation was involved in causing the death of a civilian member of village defence committee Abdul Rehman.


All 11 convicts confessed in trial courts and were handed death sentences.
