Basavaraj Konannavar, a resident of Murakibhavi village in the Indian state of Karnataka became friends with Mudakanatti village-resident Ramesh Hukkeri when the two worked at a hotel in Shahapur. Konannavar's wife Parvati, also used to work alongside the two at the establishment. In 2011, Parvati, who was also 'close' Hukkeri, married Konannavar.

Hukkeri 'abducted' Parvati over an unpaid INR500-loan around two months ago, Konannavar claimed. He said his wife, pregnant with their second child, had refused to return despite repeated requests. Konannavar also produced a 'recording' of Ramesh telling him to keep away.

Konannavar met the pertinent DC before staging the sit-in. The DC has directed police to look into the matter.
