'Sacred Games 2' to focus on Gaitonde-Guruji relationship

Show will reportedly have a total of four seasons comprising of eight episodes each

On September 21, Netflix announced that the much loved crime thriller Sacred Games was renewed for another season. While the teaser did not reveal any new footage from the upcoming season, it did feature Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the gangster Ganesh Gaitonde. This could only mean that he would be returning to the screen, reported Hindustan Times.

It's still unclear where season two of Sacred Games would commence from. The last episode saw Inspector Sartaj Singh, played by Saif Ali Khan, come across a major breakthrough in his investigation of Gaitonde's claims. The gangster had given Singh 25 days to "save the city" of Mumbai out of which 14 days are still remaining.

While most fans are predicting a nuclear attack plot in the upcoming season, the cast and crew of Sacred Games have stated their own assumptions of the future.

Pankaj Tripathi who plays Guruji in the show and has only appeared briefly said that he would have a substantial role in season two. Fans of Sacred Games who have also read the books that inspired the show agreed stating that the book goes into details of Gaitonde's relationship with Guruji.

Speaking of his character in the show, Tripathi revealed, "Guruji is a larger-than-life part and will become the most sought after character in the series. My character becomes as big as Gaitonde.”

A source also added, "Shooting for Sacred Games 2 will start in November 2018 in Mumbai. Pankaj who appears in only in three scenes apart from his voice-over in the first season, will have a central role in the second season alongside Nawazuddin as he is the real mastermind."

In another interview, Khan shared that the creators of the show were planning a total of four seasons consisting of eight episodes each. "The series will be made in four parts as it’s a 1,000-page book and we’ve only got through one-third of it now. Each season will have eight episodes, so overall, the series will have 32 episodes."

The second season will reportedly also feature timelines of Gaitonde and Singh. Actors Jatin Sarna and Neeraj Kabi who played Bunty and Parulkar, respectively in the first season have confirmed that they will be reprising their roles for the upcoming installment.
