It Runs In The Family: Sarah and Zahra Raza

From exploring things together to always having each other’s back, these sisters share it all

September 24, 2018

Sarah and Zahra Raza, designer and a Dubai based blogger respectively, are five years apart, but the age difference doesn’t hold them back from sharing the strongest bond! From exploring things together to always having each other’s back, these sisters certainly are two peas in a pod

What’s your first memory of each other?

Sarah: Zahra is five years younger than me so I remember my mom asking my brother and I to pray for a brother or sister whichever we wanted. My brother wanted a little brother and I wanted a sister! So I felt like God had answered my prayers! Little did I know, she would become annoying and would follow me around everywhere during my “cool teenager” phase.

Zahra: Sarah is my older sister, she’s always there to rescue me and make me feel better. I have so many fond memories with her but I think the best ones have to be when I am visiting home and we order KFC after midnight. We eat and talk all night long. Also I love lazing on her bed while she’s busy working, she gets so annoyed.

What is the craziest thing you have done together?

Sarah: There are so many fun crazy memories, one time we were travelling together and ended up at a gay club. Watching the Pakistan and India match in Dhaka along with a few of our friends was definitely a crazy experience too.

Zahra: Oh wow! We have done a lot of crazy things together. Our first helicopter ride was pretty crazy and the countless times she visits me in Dubai. Every day is crazy!

If you could only wear one piece of clothing for the rest of your life, from the others closet, what would it be?

Sarah: Considering we are both so different in size, definitely her bag collection! I can’t really fit into her clothes or shoes; I don’t know how she manages to steal all of mine anyway!

Zahra: I am always stealing bags and accessories from Sarah’s wardrobe; our sizes are so different that I can’t fit into anything, but I still manage to get into everything somehow! *Chuckles*

What did you get punished for the most as a child?

Sarah: I would get punished for bad grades. Apart from that I often had to deal with the “if you can’t take your little sister to your friend’s place than you don’t need to go either” restriction. Ughh still remember that time!

Zahra: I would bicycle around the city and my father had forbidden me to leave the street. So each time he found out I would get some serious scolding.

If you could swap places with each other, what’s the first thing you would you do?

Sarah: I would go live on the edge with the same zest that she does without being the emotional over cautious big sister syndrome that I always live by.

Zahra: Go hug my younger sister and give her all my bags and jewellery!

What is the one thing you love about your sister?

Sarah: There are so many things that I love about her, I love how she takes so much time out when I am visiting her no matter how busy she is. I love that she makes a check list of must see/do things. My ultimate favourite is how she loves my kids and entertains them on their level.

Zahra: I can tell her anything and it’s going to be safe with her. She always bails me out of trouble and bad times.

If you are fighting with each other, how do you make up?

Sarah: We need time to cool down and yes me being a Leo and her being a Scorpio we are both extremely stubborn and hot headed, so fights are not a pretty sight. But I know she has my back no matter what, which is the best part about having a sister.

Zahra: We get over it eventually, but it takes a long time to cool down. She’s a Leo and I am a Scorpio so we both are very strong headed.

What is the one secret talent your sister has, that you wish you did too?

Sarah: She has the ability to forgive and forget and move on. I wish I could do it that easily too. I have such difficulty letting things go.

Zahra: She has a talent to be nice to everyone and listen to everyone’s stories. I wish I could have 50% of that.

Describe your sister in three words:

Sarah: Beautiful, entertaining and a true diva.

Zahra: Strong, beautiful and emotional.

How are your personalities similar?

Sarah: We have the ability to look at the positive side of things even in the hardest of times I would say ‘when the going gets tough, the tough gets going’.

Zahra: We jump to conclusions very fast and we keep giving people chances, which we shouldn’t. We are warriors; every time we fall we get back up stronger than before.

I can’t live without my sister because…

Sarah: She is my confidante and the one person who will not have an ulterior motive when giving me advice. And like any sibling I can fight with her and say whatever I want to her but if anyone else says a word I’ll have them by the throat.

Zahra: She’s my shoulder to cry on and the one person who I can trust with all my heart. Love you Saru!!
