Shorthanded: Citizens complain of shortage of staff at Pims

Patients and attendants PIMS complaint that existing paramedical staff is not sufficient

ISLAMABAD: Citizens have complained about the shortage of medical and paramedical staff available at the emergency department of the largest tertiary care hospital in the federal capital with attendants forced to wait for hours to get serious patients admitted to the emergency ward.

Patients and attendants visiting the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) said that existing paramedical staff is not sufficient to handle the patients. To worsen matters there is also a severe shortage of medicines.

They also complained that trainee doctors, who lack sufficient experience to deal with patients, have been assigned duties in the emergency department. Salim Khan, who had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment, said that there was a serious shortage of staff in Pims’ emergency department. He urged the authorities concerned to take notice of this issue and assign additional staff in the critical department.
