Securing Pindi: Religious scholars urged to maintain sectarian harmony

RAWALPINDI: Religious scholars should help maintain peace and harmony during Muharram said Commissioner Capt (Retd) Saif Anjum while presiding over a meeting of the divisional peace committee.

The meeting was attended by MNA Fauzia Behram, DCs of Attock, Jehlum, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, traders’ representatives and Ulema belonging to different sects.

The Commissioner said security arrangements for Muharram were underway and security in the entire division would be increased to maintain law and order. He said that timings of load shedding and a cleanliness plan along procession routes would be worked out, adding that feedback and suggestions would also be obtained from citizens to improve the arrangements.

“Maintaining harmony is an obligation for religious scholars. Sectarian unity is the need of the hour," Commissioner Anjum added.

He said security arrangements by the police could only be successful with the cooperation of Ulema and civil society.

Anjum said administrations of all tehsils of the district had been directed to ensure cleanliness along the procession routes.

On the occasion, Ulema assured the commissioner of their full cooperation to maintain peace and law and order situation at their respective areas.
