Army chief ratifies death sentence of 13 terror convicts

All were involved in heinous crimes including attacking LEAs and armed forces

Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday confirmed the death sentences of 13 "hardcore" terrorists involved in "heinous" offences, a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The 13 have been sentenced for attacking armed forces personnel, law enforcement agencies, destroying educational institutions, and killing innocent civilians.

The convicts were involved in the killing of 202 people including 151 civilians and 51 members of the armed forces and Frontier Corps and injured at least 250 others.

These convicts were tried by special military courts. Seven convicts have also been handed death sentences.

 

  • Munir Rehman: Member of a proscribed organisation, abetted suicide bomber Muslim Khan in attacking Qoumi Laskhar Jirga at Orakzai agency, which resulted in 114 deaths. Also responsible for an attack which resulted in six soldiers' death.

  • Muhammad Bashir: Member of a proscribed organisation,  involved in the attack on Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman's residence in Dera Ismail Khan. Abetted suicide bomber Sadiqullah in attacking MNA Rasheed Akbar Niwani.

  • Hafiz Abdullah: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in the attack which led to the death of Lieutenant Colonel Anwar Abbas and injured others.

  • Bakhtullah Khan: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in attacks on LEAs which resulted in the death of three havildars, 14 soldiers and left scores injured.

  • Shah Khan: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in attacks on LEAs which resulted in the death of two havildars, seven soldiers and left scores injured.

  • Muhammad Sohail: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in a suicide attack on Kohat Tunnel which led to the death of five civilians and multiple injured. He also killed a civilian.

  • Daud Shah: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in the killing of an innocent civilian and attacking army. Three havildars and three soldiers were killed, found in possession of firearms.

  • Muhammad Munir: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in attacking LEAs which led to the death of three constables, two officials.

  • Habibullah: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in the destruction of Government Girls primary school, Zangi (Swat), attacking army personnel which resulted in one death. Found in possession of explosives.

  • Muhammad Asif: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in the death of two innocent civilians, attacks of LEAs which resulted in the death of a head constable.

  • Gul Shah: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in the death of a civilian, attacks on LEAs and injuring five soldiers.

  • Jalal Hussain: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in attacking armed forces, LEAs and deaths of two soldiers.

  • Ali Sher: Member of a proscribed organisation, involved in the destruction of Government Girls primary school, Langar (Swat), attacking army and death of a soldier. Found in possession of firearms and explosives.


All 13 confessed to their crimes and have been handed death sentences.
