KARACHI:

Pakistan outplayed defending champions India in the first round of the final of the 16th Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East Championship.

Tehseen Gheewala and Rashidul Ghazi peaked in the first round, outclassing India 58-26 and giving Pakistan a good start. The hosts have defeated Pakistan three times before, but team manager Tariq Rasheed feels a good start  put the opponents under pressure.

“A lead of 32 points is a big achievement,” Rasheed told The Express Tribune. “I saw the Indian captain angry so it shows they are under pressure.”

Rasheed insisted that the team should not lose focus in order to seal the win. Pakistan entered the final with a five-point lead over the hosts at the end of the round matches.

The teams play the final two rounds today.
