Armed forces to implement govt directives, says Chaudhry after COAS briefs PM

Normalisation of ties with India part of govt's agenda, says information minister

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Friday said Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa assured the prime minister that the army is bound to implement all policies devised by the government.

The information minister, elaborating on the detailed security briefing received by Prime Minister Imran Khan at the General Headquarters on Thursday, added that General Bajwa had stated that the armed forces will, like all other state institutions, will work under the government and said sensitive security issues were discussed during the hours-long briefing session.

Referring to Pakistan's neighbours, Chaudhry said normalisation of ties with India is part of the PTI-led government's agenda as "we all want peace with India and stability in Afghanistan".



Claiming that the country's relations with the United States were not strained, Chaudhry said Pakistan wants investment from the US and Russian. "Our focus is on having good relations for regional stability and on having good relations for economic growth." He added that the China-Pakistan Economic Project (CPEC) is also part of the government's agenda.



The information minister also touched upon the blasphemous caricatures controversy and said: "it is a minority in the west which tries to create hostilities". He added that Foreign Minister will also raise the issue at the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Chaudhry also lauded the efforts of the government in tackling the controversy.
