ISLAMABAD: Despite claims made by the police of ensuring foolproof security in the city, at least three houses and a hotel were looted in the capital over Eid.

Police say robbers struck two houses in Sector G-15 on the second day of Eid. The burglars stole cash, a laptop computer and other valuables from the two houses.

Another house was burgled in Burma Town, within the remits of the Khanna police. Police have registered cases for theft but have yet to identify or arrest the suspects.

A hotel in Pind Begwal was also looted on August 21, the day before Eid.

Apart from the burglaries, at least two vehicles were also reported as stolen.

A car was reported as stolen from the cattle market in Sector I-12 while a bike was lifted from the Shahdara picnic point.

Officials say the exact number of crimes committed over Eid will be known in the coming days as it often takes a couple of days and weeks for the police to register an FIR after they receive a complaint. More so since many who have left the city to celebrate Eid amongst their family in their native village, start to return.

Meanwhile, the Shalimar police have booked the owners of an apartment building in Sector F-10 who had reportedly brought sacrificial animals to the building for selling them. Police say residents of Al-Mustafa Tower in Sector F-10 had lodged a complaint that some people, in connivance with the tower’s management, had kept sacrificial animals in the tower’s basements which was causing inconvenience to the residents.

The issue also resulted in a disagreement between residents and the management of the tower after which the former complained to the police.

The police took action and booked four people including Faisal Kareem, Ashraf Kaleem and Salahuddin for violating a ban imposed by the district administration on the sale of sacrificial animals in residential areas.

The police also arrested one of the suspects but he was released on bail. Other suspects have also obtained pre-arrest bail from the court.
