Social security: Rs301.5m disbursed through mobile phones

ISLAMABAD:

Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has disbursed Rs301.5 million through mobile phone banking in Larkana and Layyah districts so far, while the facility will also be extended to other districts, said a BISP official.

He added that over 60,000 mobile phones have been distributed for free amongst its registered beneficiaries for ensuring improved delivery system of cash grants.

“Transparency and facilitation of the beneficiaries is the priority of the programme so the whole system is established using modern technology,” the official said, adding that disbursement of cash grants through mobile phones is convenient, transparent and eliminates human involvement in the process.

He added that a nationwide poverty survey is being conducted to register more deserving families under BISP, and will be completed before June this year. The number of total beneficiary families is expected to rise up to seven million, he added.
