ISLAMABAD: National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Friday foiled a drug smuggling bid on M2. According to an NHMP statement, patrol officers signalled a recklessly driven car to stop on M2 at about 10am. However, the driver tried to escape and a chase ensued. But the driver of the speeding vehicle lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. A suspect, later identified as Mohamamd Imran, tried to escape towards a nearby village, but Inspector Haroon Wazir was hot on his tail and overpowered him with the help of a villager. Later when the NHMP personnel searched the car they found it loaded with 34 kilogrammes of hashish and 29 kilogrammes of opium, all in neatly packed packets of one kilogramme each. The narcotics and the suspect were handed over to Chontra police station, Rawalpindi.
