Research lab inaugurated to convert waste to energy in PU

PU VC also opens two-kilometre jogging track at varsity

LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar inaugurated a laboratory at the Institute of Chemistry which would convert waste to energy.

Principal investigator Dr Zaibun Nisa said the research project, worth Rs71 million, included the transformation of waste to energy, the establishment of the industrial research laboratory for conversion of biomass and communal waste to energy.



She said that the project had produced 3KV electricity and its capacity would be increased in the future. Dr Akhtar said that there was a need for such research projects that could contribute to the development of the country.

The institute's director Dr Muhammad Makshoof Athar and senior faculty members were present on the occasion.

Jogging track opens

On the same day, Dr Akhtar inaugurated a two-kilometre-long jogging track at the hostels ground. PU Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Resident Officer 1 Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed, Resident Officer 2 Malik Muhammad Zaheer, heads of various departments, senior faculty members and athletes were present on the occasion.

Dr Akhtar said a healthy body guarantees a healthy mind. "Sports teach us discipline and the art of winning and losing in our routine matters. The university's administration will always promote healthy sports activities on campus."

PU, PILL sign MoU

The Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) and Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in academic and professional fields. In this regard, a ceremony was held at PU Vice Chancellor's office on Friday.



According to the agreement, clinical psychologists for the CCP would provide extensive training to employees at PILL and workshops would also be organised. Both the institutions would launch joint research projects and strengthen academic exchange. Internship and placement programme for the interns of CCP would also be commenced at PILL.

PU declares results

The Punjab University Examinations Department has declared results for the BS (4-year programme) first-semester examination 2018, BS Home Economics Part-II (3rd and 4th year) annual examination 2018 and M.Com Part-II annual examination 2017. Detailed results are also available on the PU website (www.pu.edu.pk).
