Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), while referring to a news story titled ‘SSGC loses case in international court’ that appeared in The Express Tribune, has said that the gap between gas demand and supply has increased manifold leaving no choice but to resort to load management.

To meet winter demand of residential consumers living in Quetta, SSGC said it was compelled to resort to load management to Habibullah Coastal Power Company.

“The load management was necessary since the domestic customer demand in Balochistan had increased 213% since SSGC started supplying gas to the power company,” it said. SSGC pointed out that Quetta, where the power company is located, along with other cities of Balochistan, was one of the coldest places in Pakistan.

As a result, according to SSGC, demand for gas increases substantially, making it difficult to supply huge quantities to residential customers and the power company. Hence, SSGC had to curtail gas supplies to the power company, which led the latter to file for arbitration.
