200 motorcycles impounded on Independence Day

Traffic police urged to take strict action against one-wheelers

RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police Rawalpindi taking strict action against traffic rules violators, one-wheelers, negligent and dangerous driving, issued 160 challan tickets while nearly 200 motorcycles were impounded due to severe violations on Independence Day.

Chief Traffic Officer SP Muhammad Bin Ashraf informed that they had planned in advance to control the menacing riders.

City was divided into eight sectors and deployments were made as per requirement of each sector the catch one-wheelers and stunt-riders and impound their rides.

The plan was chalked out in order to effectively control one-wheeling, racing and dangerous driving by motorcyclists, on Independence Day, Rawalpindi city.



With other arrangements to curb such activities, special squads of traffic police and district police were constituted on the directives of Rawalpindi City Police Officer DIG Abbas Ahsan.

Joint operations were conducted in this regard, he said adding, additional force of traffic wardens was deployed on city roads to control any situation.

Special arrangements were made for Murree Road, Chandni Chowk, Sixth Road flyovers, Airport Road, Peshawar Road, Mall Road, Jhelum Road near Ayub Park and other roads to prevent one-wheeling and car-skating incidents in a bid to avert any casualties on the eve of Independence Day. He said special directives were issued to take strict action against one-wheelers.

Youngsters with dangerous motorcycle driving not only endanger their own lives but also pose a serious threat to others and interrupt traffic flow, he said. He informed the activity was already being checked by special squads of traffic officials deputed on the city roads but, orders were also issued to take strict action to curb the activity on Independence Day. Moreover he informed that Traffic Police Officers were directed to keep a vigilant eye on one-wheelers particularly on Aug 14.



The traffic officers were also instructed to take stern action against one-wheelers without discrimination and to arrest anyone found involved in this dangerous act, which is cause of deaths and severe injuries for the riders, as well as, others on the road.
